Waverley Care is Scotland's HIV and Hepatitis C charity. Their work is focused on prevention, education, testing, and support. Throughout Scotland, they are reducing new HIV and Hepatitis C infections, getting people diagnosed and supporting those affected in whatever ways they need. Through this work, they are also challenging HIV and Hepatitis C related stigma, tackling health inequalities and promoting good sexual health.
Each year, Waverley Care relies on the kindness of hundreds of volunteers to run their services. Volunteers are buddying and providing peer support to people living with HIV/Hepatitis C, gardening at the residential unit and shaking buckets or organising events to help them raise over £500,000 in much-needed donations.
Matt Middler, Waverley Care Corporate Relationships Manager, said "Each year up to 300 volunteers from companies in Edinburgh give of their time to help us maintain our 2.5 acres of land at Milestone, our residential Unit. For the residents, having access to a beautiful, well kept, outdoor space can add real value as they seek to improve their physical and mental health whilst receiving treatment for their HIV or Hepatitis C. We are incredibly grateful to the whole team at Criterion who came not only with enthusiasm and good humour, but leaf blowers and a chainsaw! They did a top job. Thank you."
Stewart Smith, Criterion Standards Architect commenting said: “We were delighted to help in this small way and the whole team threw themselves into it. We all really enjoyed learning more about the invaluable work of the charity. It was definitely a very hard days work as it was so physical, but we all worked really well together. It was also nice to do something different and really positive away from the office as a team.”
