Throughout June, Pride Month, our team of 14 took on the ambitious challenge of walking 3.5 million steps - that’s 250,000 steps each, or roughly 8,333 steps per person, per day. To put that in perspective, according to the NHS, the average person in the UK walks around 3,000–4,000 steps a day, so we aimed to do more than double that, every single day, for a month.

This was all in aid of Waverley Care, a HIV charity dedicated to raising awareness, increasing testing, and tackling the stigma surrounding HIV across Scotland. Since becoming Waverley Care’s charity partner in 2019, we’ve raised over £50,000 to support its vital work.

By the end of the month, the team managed to smash the target of 3.5 million steps and collectively logged an incredible, 4.4 million steps. From early morning walks to lunchtime strolls and evening step-count sprints, everyone found creative ways to fit in their steps and stay motivated.

With Criterion matching the amount raised, pound for pound, the challenge has raised over £2,000. A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored us – we really appreciate all the support.

Billy Burnisde, Managing Director:

We wanted to do something a bit different this year - something inclusive, meaningful, and truly challenging, and a month-long step challenge felt like the perfect fit. It was completely optional, yet every single team member chose to get involved. That speaks volumes about how much our team genuinely cares about Waverley Care and the incredible work they do.

John McKellar, National Fundraising Manager at Waverley Care:

Waverley Care is delighted to be chosen as Criterion's charity partner for 2025. Our partnership continues to grow stronger, and the team's efforts to smash their 3.5 million step target throughout June have been truly epic. We're incredibly grateful to all our friends at Criterion who have walked so far to help Waverley Care achieve its mission.
